Hi again!
So, I postponed my May hike from Askifou to Katsiveli and now i have a flight booked for september 29, and my plan is to start at Ammoudari/Askifou on september 30. I will have one night stop on the way between there and Katsiveli.
A few question marks:
1. - Would you consider the timing of the hike safe considering risk of fog?
2. - Can you recommend some good spots for pitching a tent about halfway between Ammoudari and Katsiveli?
3. - I found a plotted trail on alltrails.com - how accurate is it (save for the fact that it shows the "old" path following Kastro's ridge, whereas I plan to go the "new" path")? https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail ... ge-askifou
4. - Is there any way of knowing beforehand if there will be water in the trough at Katsiveli on october 1st?
5. - If i would lose the trail at some point, where would be more easy points to navigate to in order to find the trail again?
Thanks for all your help!
//Daniel

Re: Askifou to Katsiveli (and onwards): 30/9
Hi Daniel,
I try to answer your questions:
1. If there is any fog on Kastro, I would not continue. Fog can be be present at any time, not only in autumn.
2. There is a sinkhole above Kastro ("Koutalas Seli") and towards Mavroi Lakkoi (detour), you could also find spots (small, depending on your tent). Afterwards, I would recommend to continue towards Livadha. There are relatively flat spots half an hour or one hour before the mitato (one is also shown on your track).
3. Looks OK. Comment: The poles on the newly waymarked trail have badly suffered from weather and from people who destroyed them.
4. No idea.
5. Koutalas Seli. At Grias Soros. And in a few other places where the poles are in prominent places.
Best wishes
Simon

Thank you Simon! It's good to know that some of the new poles are damaged or gone - I found your map/gpx here and I managed to get it onto my avenza map app on the phone. If I understand correctly the markings show the positions of the poles that you put up?

Yes, but you will not find all them any more.

Would it be of any value if I took notes on which poles are missing as I go? //Daniel

Basically yes!
I could then talk to the friends from EOS and we could make a plan how to replace them
Thanks.
Best wishes
