Kafeníon in Koustogerako

Koustogerako hat wieder ein Kafeníon. Eine gute Nachricht für alle Wanderer des E4 und der Gegend um Sougia. Vom E4 aus den Bergen kommend an der Plateia links hoch gibt's seit einer Woche wieder Erfrischungen mit schönem Blick auf das Dorf.

jassou Rheinländer, das ist mal eine gute Nachricht. Es gab ja in den letzten Jahren auch schon ein Kafenion in Koustogerako.

Die Nachricht mit dem Kafenion freut mich auch sehr. Wird uns eine willkommene Erfrischung nach der Wanderung durchs Achlada-Tal sein.

Kennt jemand die Keratidias Schlucht? Laut dem von kv verlinkten Bericht scheint sie ja durchaus begehbar zu sein, taucht aber nicht im Schluchtenbereich hier im Forum auf. Hat jemand Erfahrungen?

Ich werde es vielleicht (wenn noch Zeit bleibt) Ende Juni mal versuchen...

Also ich bin sie noch nicht gegangen. Ich glaube gehört zu haben, dass es einen Haufen Vegetation gibt.

Kalimera, hatte gehofft das Simon mehr wüsste........

Ich habe im Oktober 2014 mit Alpamayo/Joachim auf unserem Weg von Sougia nach Ag. Roumeli in der Keratidias-Schlucht übernachtet. Es war schon Dunkel als wir ankamen, dewegen kann ich leider nicht viel zu der Schlucht sagen.

Hatte aber das Gefühl das man schon ein wenig Richtung Norden gehen kann......

Regarding Keratida gorge

I passed through the gorge in 2013 so this info is based on how i found the gorge then.Since then the local mountaineering club has excursioned there so maybe theres some improvements to the route.The gorge was passed at the end of a long hike from Omalos to Greleska,then to Agia Katerini onwards down the gorge and then ending up in Sougia.Anyone doing the gorge by itself will find it considerably easier than i did but it still should not be underestimated.The gorge is longer than it looks from above or the sea,there are remnants of old footpaths at the begining and after a while you come up on parts that require scrambling down and very thick vegetation almost like a jungle.The vegetation was so thick close to the end that we found it easier to hike up the west side of the gorge and get down to the E4 footpath from there.As i said earlier this might have changed since then.I think its certainly worth the effort since its rarely visited by anyone and with a bit of patience of course is considered passable.

Kalispera, das ist doch eine wunderschöne Landschaft. Ich werde im Oktober auch durch die Keratidias-Schlucht wandert.

I'm looking forward to explore this gorge and walk on the ancient paths of the selino resistance group around the Paterakis Brothers and the New Zealand agent Dudley Perkins (called "kiwi" by the british and "Vasili" by the cretans). The path through the gorge and the cave on the coast at a spot called Kaloyéros is lively described in the book "The lion of crete" by Murray Elliot and the story of Perkins on Crete is summarized here: http://www.my-crete-site.co.uk/vasili.htm#reentry

It's a shame that stories of resistance fighters aren't mentioned in the german guide books of the region. I.e. in the guidebook "MM-Wandern Kreta" there's not a single hint on the occupation time and the paths used by the resistance.

I will let you all know about the circumstances of the gorge/path after my return from Crete in July.

Moin Pezoporos, böse Absicht ist das sicherlich nicht gewesen, ich kenne den Gunnar (Herausgeber von MM-Wandern Kreta) persönlich. Den normalen Kreta-Urlauber interessiert das Thema auch einfach nicht. Viele sind sogar überrascht wenn sie hören das die Deutschen im 2.Weltkrieg auf Kreta waren.

Koustogerako, Livada und Moni worden am 29.9.1943 von den Deutschen Bombadiert. Mehr darüber findest du hier:

The owner (a couple in their sixties) opened the Kafenion in March 2017. They were satisfied with the amount of visitors in March, April and May. In June, July and August the were expecting lesser customer numbers due to the high temperatures. In September and Oktober, they are expecting hikers to be in greater numbers.

The woman speaks good english, the husband only greek and the are extremely friendly and offer great hospitality.

Does anybody know if the Kafenion in Koustogerako is open also this year???

The location: Is it by the paved road that leads to the antenna above Sougia???
